Hickory Golf Starter Sets

If you've been curious about hickory golf but aren't sure where to begin, a hickory golf starter set is the easiest way to get on the course. These beginner hickory clubs are put together based on the Society of Hickory Golfers' recommended six club setup, which covers every shot you'll need for a full round. Each set includes a brassie (fairway wood), mid-iron (2 iron equivalent), mashie (5 iron), mashie niblick (7 iron), niblick (wedge), and a putter. That's the sweet spot for playability without overloading your bag.

Every club in these sets has been individually restored in my shop. I match them for feel and condition so they play well together, not just look good sitting in a bag. The shafts are sound, the heads are tight, and the grips are fresh. I coach golfers of all levels, and I've seen plenty of people pick up a hickory set and fall in love with the game all over again. There's a simplicity to playing with six clubs that strips away the overthinking and gets you back to just hitting the ball. Most players are surprised how quickly they adjust, and how satisfying it feels to work the ball with clubs that were built over a hundred years ago.

Starter sets typically run between $300 and $600 depending on the quality and rarity of the individual clubs. If you'd rather build your own set piece by piece, you can shop our hickory irons, woods, and putters individually. Not sure which club does what? I put together a club types guide on the blog that breaks down every hickory club category with modern equivalents. And if you're brand new to playing with hickory, check out our post on how to start playing hickory golf.

Pair your set with a vintage golf bag and you're ready to go. Every starter set ships with care, and I'm always available to help you pick the right one for your game. If you're looking for a hickory golf set for beginners, this is your first hickory set. Grab one and see what all the fuss is about.
